Georgia Enrichment Opportunities

Here are a couple of links from my Internet wanderings:

Georgia Enrichment Program for Homeschoolers in Acworth offers classes from electricity and magnetism to entrepreneurship. Robotics and Mechanics are on the schedule at Youth Engaged in Science (YES!).

The Sculley Academy Math Club meets twice a month in Suwanee. Meetings are two hours and include games, problem solving, and math competitions.

Can anyone offer additional information or experience with these organizations?

Homeschool was better today--better attitudes all around. It's amazing what a little family meeting can do to put everyone in a better place.

  1. Matt and I are enjoying the high-ability language arts curriculum developed at the College of William & Mary (info at cfge.wm.edu/curriculum.htm). We're doing the unit "Literary Reflections," which can be used for up to a semester. It can be purchased at kendallhunt.com. Also very pleased with the Project M3 unit we've started from the Mentoring Mathematical Minds curriculum developed under a federal grant at NEAG and sold through Kendall Hunt as well for grades 3-4-5. Both these programs emphasize depth of learning, discussion, brainstorming, critical thinking, creativity over acceleration and rote learning. Matt is visual/spatial, really dislikes writing, so I'm using a digital recorder and video camera for some of his verbal responses. I'm using Georgia's 4th grade objectives to guide my topics, as Matt will return to public school next year-- the school has an exceptional teacher in charge of the highest level class in 5th grade.
